UK-based Bendalls Engineering has installed six new overhead cranes at its Rail Hub (Site 3) in Carlisle, Cumbria, marking a key phase in the site’s development.
The newly installed gantries and Street Cranes are intended to move the workshop closer to full operational status.
The equipment includes four 10t overhead cranes in Bay 1 and two 20t overhead cranes in Bay 2.
With the latest installation stage completed, electrical contractor, RB Electrical Services, has started work on fitting the site’s electrical systems.
Commissioning for the new cranes is scheduled for late July or early August, according to the project timeline provided by the company.
Bendalls Engineering noted that the crane installation forms part of a broader investment programme in the Rail Hub.
Planned future projects include reinstating the rail connection at the site to allow product transport by rail.
The company indicated this as part of its stated aim to support “Engineering a Sustainable Future.”
RB Electrical Services said: “Another great project to be involved with for one of our main clients. We are looking forward to seeing it develop.”
Founded in 1894, Bendalls Engineering operates from five sites in Kingstown, Carlisle, and serves various industries, including nuclear, defence and renewable energy.
The company provides services such as design, welding, fabrication, precision machining, and testing.
In April 2025, Cadre Holdings acquired Bendalls Engineering following the sale of the Engineering Division by Carr’s Group.
The business also features a Skills Centre, which aims to train new engineers for the industry.
In April, Street Crane supplied a 5t overhead gantry crane to Clarke Welding Services as part of an installation project.
The 29m-span crane was delivered in two sections to accommodate the layout of Clarke Welding Services’ facility.
