Konecranes has acquired the nuclear service and port service businesses of Coapsa Control, a crane services company located in Viladecavalls, Spain.

The company announced that the transaction, effective from 1 July, forms part of its wider strategy to increase its presence in the Spanish industrial and port services sectors.

The financial details of the deal have not been revealed.

Following the completion of the acquisition, Konecranes will expand its Spanish service network, gaining access to additional expertise at the Viladecavalls location, and integrating a team with experience in serving nuclear and port customers.

Coapsa Control, established in 1997, has focused on inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repairs, and modernisation of cranes for nuclear and port industry clients. The company has annual sales of about €4m ($4.5m) and employs roughly 20 people.

Coapsa Control owners Jordi Calatayud Castañ and Joan Quintana Canudas said: “Together with Konecranes, our entire team can continue their work and expand the business with confidence for the future.”

Konecranes Port Services manager Catarina Lopez said: “The acquisition strengthens Konecranes’ presence in Catalonia and the whole of Spain and ensures that the in-depth knowledge and expertise of Coapsa’s team remain accessible to nuclear and port customers.”

Konecranes indicated that the integration of Coapsa Control aligns with its emphasis on service growth within its Industrial and Ports Services units, and with its ongoing investments in digital technologies intended to enhance material flow efficiency.

The company also referenced its commitment to improving customer focus and business development through continuous improvement and technical advancement.

Coapsa Control’s established client base and technical staff are expected to contribute to Konecranes’ operations in Spain following the transaction.

The parties have not provided additional information regarding potential changes to operations or the impact on employees beyond the assurance that the existing team will continue under Konecranes’ ownership.

In May, Konecranes was awarded a contract to supply two double-girder overhead cranes to Westcon Helgeland for a new production facility in Nesna, Norway.
