Spanish supplier of industrial equipment Industrias Velasco Cabrera (VECA) has completed the installation of overhead cranes at the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant in Spain.
The project involved designing and fitting custom double-girder cranes, each capable of lifting up to 20t over a span of 13.1m.
VECA used lifting equipment supplied by France-based Verlinde. The installation meets all relevant nuclear safety standards required by CNAT regulations.
The implementation marks the latest phase in VECA’s operations at the site, which included detailed planning, engineering, and logistics.
Project personnel supervised delivery and assembly to ensure all equipment was correctly positioned and fully operational.
Central Nuclear Trillo I AIE, the entity responsible for the plant’s operation, is headquartered in Madrid.
Verlinde said: “Thank you, Industrias Velasco Cabrera (VECA), for highlighting this incredible achievement on a nuclear power plant, and congratulations to all teams that made it possible!”
VECA, which has more than 25 years of experience in the sector, specialises in the design, manufacture, and installation of material handling solutions.
The company’s activities also cover preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment repair, and the supply of components for various industrial clients.
VECA works with a network of suppliers for access to components and parts, aiming to maintain the reliability and longevity of its installations.
The company provides engineering solutions to industrial clients across multiple countries.
In July 2025, VECA installed a 3.2t monorail overhead crane at EMASA’s wastewater treatment facility in Málaga, Spain.
The work formed part of a contract secured through a public tender.
The project required VECA to fabricate a bespoke structure and complete the installation without altering the facility’s existing support framework.
