Budapest-based company GD Cranes and Machines has manufactured and supplied a new explosion-proof, dual-hoist overhead crane for a petrochemical facility in Hungary.
The equipment was designed to enhance operational safety and flexibility within potentially hazardous environments while fulfilling strict industry standards for such installations.
GD developed the crane to integrate with the client’s existing infrastructure, positioning it alongside an established crane on the current track.
The installation included two separate hoists: a primary heavy-duty hoist and a secondary auxiliary hoist.
This configuration enabled workers to handle equipment of varying weights and criticality with greater accuracy, supporting essential maintenance and material handling activities throughout the plant.
The crane is equipped with explosion-proof drive systems along with multiple safety technologies, including optical collision detection, limit switches, and overload protection, to maintain safe operation under demanding conditions.
According to GD, the delivery represented continued progress in meeting complex engineering challenges for clients operating in sensitive industrial sectors.
The low-maintenance system is intended to provide long-term reliability for ongoing operations at the plant, said the company.
GD continues to focus on projects that require adherence to rigorous safety protocols and technical expertise.
The company said: “This project proves that GD not only manufactures cranes, but also delivers complex, customised industrial solutions that meet the most stringent safety requirements.”
Apart from cranes, GD designs and produces personnel lifts, racking systems, and production equipment for use by aircraft industry clients worldwide.
In October, GD supplied a top running trolley overhead crane to the plastic fabrication firm Styron.
