UK-headquartered Durham Lifting has completed the installation of a crane system inside container units for a client.

The company engineered, manufactured and installed a 1t extendable monorail hoist to meet the client’s lifting needs within a confined space.

Engineers at Durham Lifting produced all components internally, managed inspection processes, and carried out the final installation on site.

The monorail hoist system is designed to operate effectively in restricted container environments.

The project demonstrates Durham Lifting’s ability to supply tailored lifting solutions for settings that require specific engineering approaches, such as containers and other specialist units.

The company said: “Projects like this highlight our capability to design and deliver bespoke lifting systems for unique and challenging environments, whether within containers, workshops, offshore units, or specialist facilities.”

Durham Lifting, based in Middlesbrough, delivers lifting systems and material handling services for heavy industry.

Established in 1996 at the Britannia Test House, the company supports sectors including civil engineering, offshore projects and structural developments by offering load testing capacities of up to 3,000t.

Its portfolio includes equipment sales and hire, statutory inspections, repairs, crane servicing and upgrades.

Additional services range from wire rope work to proof load testing.

The firm continues to operate its historic test house while maintaining modern testing infrastructure.

In October 2025, Durham Lifting finished repairing a 30t overhead crane at an undisclosed location.

The company supplied and installed a new main hoist rope to restore lifting capability and ensure compliance with safety requirements.

Durham Lifting stated the crane was returned to a condition suitable for continued operation.
