British Steel has installed a new crane and hoist unit at its Lisburn Service Centre, aiming to support the distribution of steel products throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The installation included a hoist unit, updated electrical cables, and festoon tracks, which serve as a rail system for guiding moving equipment.
Columbus McKinnon handled the process, rewiring the main electrical control panel and fitting floodlighting beneath the crane.
British Steel also added three LED lights to assist operations in areas with limited light.
The company is considering placing similar lighting on other cranes at the site.
British Steel commercial manager Malcolm Sargent said: “We are always pleased to see investments being made here. We pride ourselves on the highest quality of service for our customers, and each new investment helps us achieve that aim.”
British Steel operates multiple manufacturing locations across the UK and Europe, producing around three million tonnes of steel annually.
The firm offers over 1,450 different steel specifications for applications such as rail, sections, special profiles, and wire rod. Its distribution network supplies products globally and is supported by regional sales teams.
In March 2020, Jingye Group acquired British Steel.
The company provides materials to sectors including construction, infrastructure, automotive and engineering.
Last month, British Steel secured a new order worth tens of millions of pounds for a major high-speed electric railway in Türkiye.
Under the eight-figure agreement, which received support from UK Export Finance, British Steel supplied 36,000t of rail to ERG International Group.
The order contributed to the creation of a 599km line between Ankara and İzmir, reducing carbon emissions by shortening rail travel time between the Turkish capital and the port city.
