The celebration was officially opened by the founder’s grandson Werner Vahle, while the mayor of Kamen, where the business is based, and the district administrator spoke about the company’s role as an employer and innovation driver for the region and industry.

Speaking at the event, Vahle chief executive officer and managing director Achim Dries, said: “Together, we are not only celebrating 111 years of successful history, but are also looking forward with even greater joy to what lies ahead for our company. Our past and the pioneering work done by our predecessors fills us with pride. Our aspiration today is to continue to actively shape the future with innovative developments.”

As well as the speeches, the festivities were accompanied by a diverse culinary offering served from food trucks, and also included a programme of live entertainment, with artists in luminous LED suits delivering dance and drum performances on the stage, and a live band and a DJ ensuring a full dance floor until the early hours of the morning. ­
