Austria-based Summer Krantechnik has installed a new single-girder travelling crane with a mobile roof at the Mühletorplatz power plant, replacing a crane system dating back nearly 100 years as part of a wider modernisation effort.
The company designed and supplied the 3t capacity overhead travelling crane, which spans a track gauge of 5.4m and operates along a 23m runway with an 8m lifting height.
The installation required dismantling the previous structure and overcoming challenges posed by sections of the runway located above water.
The entire project involved around 250 working hours.
The overhead travelling crane features several modifications suited to the operational requirements of the historic facility, including a special trolley drive, cover plates over the drive and lifting equipment, storm protection operated from above, and a wind warning system with both horn and warning light.
A permanently mounted roof module measuring six by 4.6m moves synchronously with the bridge to ensure maintenance can continue regardless of rain or wind.
Stahl Crane Systems provided the chain hoist technology used in the project.
For durability and corrosion resistance, coatings were applied to both the bridge and track using iron mica DB703, while the trapezoidal sheet metal roof is powder-coated in anthracite RAL7016.
Summer Krantechnik coordinated with Summer Metalltechnik for the implementation of special structural components required by local environmental factors such as wind loads and exposure to water.
Summer Krantechnik specialises in servicing, maintaining, repairing and modernising crane systems for industrial clients.
The company supports operators throughout every stage of a system’s lifecycle, offering manufacturer-independent service tailored to each installation’s condition and usage requirements.
