Jaidah Group, in collaboration with a major regional contractor has completed the commissioning of 43 overhead cranes for the North Field South (NFS) project in Qatar.

The company’s team created steel structures designed to suit the requirements of the project, working with a steel contractor to support partial outdoor runway use.

Structural engineers worked alongside Jaidah Group to manage loads and enable crane movement between indoor and outdoor locations.

The cranes are designed for operation in ambient temperatures up to 50°C commonly experienced in Qatar.

According to Jaidah, they include anti-collision devices for safety and reliable performance.

Identity of the steel contractor is undisclosed. The cranes are from lifting equipment manufacturer Konecranes.

All technical specifications comply fully with QatarEnergy’s latest requirements.

In a LinkedIn post, the company said: “As a proud QatarEnergy preferred vendor, every detail aligns with the latest QatarEnergy specifications, setting a new benchmark for quality in harsh environments.

“Kudos to Jaidah’s in-house project team for their meticulous execution, delivering on time and exceeding expectations!”

The NFS project forms part of phase two of the North Field Expansion, with overall expansion activity expected to increase Qatar’s liquefied natural gas production capacity from 77 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 126 Mtpa.

QatarEnergy is developing the North Field Expansion in partnership with energy companies including TotalEnergies, ConocoPhillips, Shell, ExxonMobil, Sinopec, Eni and China National Petroleum.

The project is divided into two main phases: North Field East and NFS, with the latter representing the current focus.
