Alstom Berlin has installed a new network-based encoder system for the hoist and trolley movements of a ship-to-shore container crane for Eurogate, Hamburg, Germany.
One encoder can handle speed control, overspeed control and position control detection tasks.
Fibre optic cable links the encoder to the switchboard. There, electronic modules that control the crane and prevent, for example, overspeeds, are plugged in and linked by a Can-open bus network (though Profi-BUS and Ethernet versions are also available). The devices are connected in series.
Switch-off hoist drum speeds range from 0.63 RPM to 4,800 RPM.
