Cutler Hammer Crane Systems has been selected by CSX World Terminals as electrical systems supplier for four rail mounted quay cranes and eight rubber tyred gantry cranes for the new CSX Zona Franca Container Terminal at Caucedo in the Dominican Republic.

All the drives will be Cutler Hammer Responder 9000 AC Inverter and the cranes will have the latest Cutler Hammer Cranemate crane managemant system. Crane builder is ZPMC, Shanghai, PRC and the cranes, to be delivered to site fully erected, are due for operation in April 2003.

In the UK November saw the completion of commissioning of two rail mounted quay cranes at Southampton Container Terminal on the south coast. These units have a hybrid drive system built from Cutler Hammer GH95 AC/DC converter drives on the hoist and Responder 9000 AC inverter drives on the boom, trolley and travel motions. The cranes have also been fitted with Cutler Hammer Panelmate diagnostics.

Lift capacity allows the handling of two 20ft containers, each weighing a maximum of 30t, at a hoist speed of 23m/min and a trolley speed of 70m/min.

Also in the UK, December saw the completion of commissioning of two refuse grabbing cranes for West London Waste at the company’s Victoria Road refuse plant in Ruislip. The modernisation contract was to replace the old wound rotor control for the grab hoists with Responder 9000 inverter drives. The cranes were built by Morris in the 1980s and are fitted with 25t grabs.
