UK heritage organisation the National Trust needed a lifting solution for its programme of maintaining canal lock gates. Lifting Gear Hire was contracted to design a large gantry system with a safe working load of 3t, yet which could be broken down into small enough parts to be physically carried by two people because access to some of the lock gates is restricted.
The solution proposed to the Trust was a bespoke manufactured Goliath gantry system, 4.5m high and spanning 7m.
Paul Bishop of Lifting Gear Hire said: “National Trust was very pleasantly surprised that we could fabricate a system large enough to provide enough access with the required 3t SWL, yet which proved so easy to erect and handle by just two people.”
