Konecranes has supplied a series of heavy-duty crane systems to Fuchs, a Terex brand, for its recently completed production hall in Bad Schönborn, Germany.

The facility, which manufactures large material handling machines for sectors including scrap, recycling, and port operations, required cranes capable of managing upper structures weighing up to 230t.

Konecranes’ installation features two double-girder overhead travelling cranes with lifting capacities of 150t and 80t respectively, each spanning 32m.

A specialised spreader beam, purpose-built for the project, allows both cranes to operate in tandem for synchronised lifting during final assembly, supporting the mounting of the machine’s upper structure onto the undercarriage.

In addition to the main cranes, Konecranes delivered further equipment for the pre-assembly area: one double-girder overhead crane with a 32t lifting capacity, plus two more double-girder cranes, each rated at 20t.

All pre-assembly cranes have spans of up to 31.5m and are equipped with single or dual hoists, depending on production needs, allowing efficient handling of a wide range of components throughout the assembly process.

The selection of Konecranes was based on its technical configuration and collaborative approach, meeting the requirements throughout the planning and implementation phases.

Ongoing coordination between involved teams allowed the crane specifications to be adjusted in line with changing technical needs, resulting in a tailored solution for the new hall.

Konecranes combined standard components with productivity-enhancing features designed for precise load control.

The crane systems use Extended Speed Range technology to increase lifting and lowering speeds when loads are light or absent, while the microspeed function allows precise, carefully controlled positioning of heavy parts.

The LoadFloating feature maintains load stability by holding weight with motor torque before engaging the brake, offering steady handling even at the highest capacities.

Through this installation, Fuchs aims to manage larger machine components while maintaining efficient workflows in the new production facility.

Operators use controls designed for practical handling, supporting both safe and effective operations suited to the production environment.

Last month, Konecranes Hellas, the Greek subsidiary of Konecranes, completed the installation and commissioning of two 70t overhead cranes at an industrial site.
