Street CraneXpress supplied and installed a light crane system at the newly-refurbished Offsite Manufacture workshop of engineering firm NG Bailey.

NG Bailey required a lifting solution to handle loads of up to 400kg at its Drighlington, UK workshop, as part of a continued investment programme in its Offsite Manufacture Division which had also included a recently-added T-Drill stainless steel extrusion machine and crane system.

A light crane system was specified from Street CraneXpress, a manufacturer of cranes and hoists based in Sheffield. The system maximises cross- and long-travel in the workshop, says the company, with a truss-reinforced bridge than spans 10m across and moves along a similarly reinforced gantry, running the 22m length of the building.

The hoist is electrically powered, allowing the operator to focus on manoeuvring and positioning the load, which requires low effort due to the low-inertia, free-moving bridge and hoist assemblies.

The whole system is floor mounted and adds no extra stresses to the structure of the building. It can also be removed and relocated at a later date, says Street CraneXpress.

NG Bailey’s manufacturing manager Andy Charlesworth said: “As a leading engineering company we pride ourselves on driving Health & Safety improvements via our ‘Safety First & Foremost’ guiding principle.
“Therefore, it was important to find a lifting solution that would safely handle the required loads, while also maximising the amount of workshop space available to us, plus avoiding any costs of strengthening the building. The light crane system delivered by Street CraneXpress met all of our expectations, and we’re looking forward to the benefits it will bring to our business.”
Duncan Randall, sales manager at Street CraneXpress, said: “The solution we provided to NG Bailey demonstrates many of the benefits of a light crane system: a fast, economic installation, giving simple, safe and precise movement of loads across the entire workshop floor. The benefits to NG Bailey include greater efficiency, faster operations, improved load-handling safety, and reduced operator fatigue.”

NG Bailey’s workshop is now in full service for stainless steel pipe cutting, welding and extrusion duties.
