Konecranes has started negotiations over staff layoffs at two of its business operations in Finland.

Negotiations have begun at Konecranes Standard Lifting Oy and Konecranes Service Oy over possible temporary and permanent layoffs, with permanent layoffs expected to see employee numbers reduced by up to 50. Konecranes Standard Lifting Oy, supplies lifting equipment for industrial purposes and Konecranes Service Oy, offers service solutions for cranes, port equipment and machine tools.

The company said the decision to reduce worker numbers in the two business areas is due to “the continuing weak demand for lifting equipment and maintenance services. This announcement follows already implemented moves to reduce the use of hired personnel and temporary employment, and bringing work previously subcontracted out back in-house.

“The aim of the measures is to adjust the companies’ cost structure and capacity to correspond with the current, weakened market situation and to secure future competitiveness,” the company said.
