Konecranes has secured a contract from Sunnhordland Kraftlag (SKL) to supply a 355-ton crane for the Blåfalli Fjellhaugen hydropower plant in Norway.
The agreement, finalised in July this year, involves full delivery, rail installation, power supply setup and commissioning.
Konecranes’ overhead crane will play a key role in maintaining the Fjellhaugen power station, managing heavy components such as the 355-ton rotor.
The crane will initially operate with a 100-ton capacity during construction, before upgrading to its full potential for ongoing maintenance tasks.
It features an SM trolley and a Ramshorn hook to deliver effective heavy lifting.
Konecranes is anticipated to deliver the crane in early 2026, with the crane expected to arrive on-site in March 2026.
Sunnhordland Kraftlag project manager Kjetil Heimvik said: “After careful consideration, we chose to partner with Konecranes to deliver the overhead crane.
“Konecranes is experienced and gave a professional and trustworthy impression in the initial phase of our dialogue.
“Quality is an absolute criterion for us, and we are certain that partnering with Konecranes will secure a good delivery in the Blåfalli Fjellhaugen power plant project.”
Konecranes said that the gears, motors, and controls of its SM crane are manufactured in-house to ensure seamless operation.
The crane’s compact design is ideal for handling large, critical components safely in tight spaces, offering precision in handling valuable equipment.
The crane works like an enclosed hoist geared for enhanced safety, reduced internal stress for longer component life, and a compact trolley.
It includes an auxiliary hoist for quicker movement of lighter loads, ensuring versatility in various industrial settings.
The crane will benefit operators from easy-to-use controls and simplified maintenance access, said Konecranes.
Konecranes process crane sales manager Jens Björk said: “The tailored maintenance crane order for Sunnhordland Kraftlag AS demonstrates our capability to deliver precise solutions under demanding conditions.”
Recently, Konecranes supplied its X-series crane to Paklog, a Croatia-based packaging firm, to address the demands of its expanding operations in Zagreb.
