The order comprises 10 straddle carriers for container handling and a service agreement for the warranty period. The straddle carriers will be delivered in February 2008.
Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg is part of Eurogate Group, the largest terminal operator in Europe. The company is making investments in two of its nine terminals, the Bremerhaven terminal and the Hamburg terminal.
The ordered equipment will be delivered to the terminal in Hamburg and will partly replace old equipment and partly increase terminal capacity in response to increased demand.
“This order is strategically important for us,” said Helmut Hemesath, director at Konecranes. “This is Konecranes’ first crane delivery to Eurogate, which is one of the biggest customers for straddle carriers with almost 300 units in its fleet. The order is a significant reference for us and a major step in the straddle carrier market.”
The straddle carriers ordered represent the latest technology on the market, including new steering and brake systems developed by Konecranes. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 50t and can stack containers 1 over 3 high. They will be used for moving and stacking containers in the container yard.
