Isokon, a Slovenian manufacturer specialising in technical plastics for industrial uses, has expanded the use of Konecranes equipment to assist with pallet handling at its production site.
After first collaborating with Konecranes in 2023 to introduce a crane system on a robotic production line, Isokon has now chosen the company again for a newly commissioned line that requires frequent and precise movement of pallets loaded with boards.
As Isokon’s production volumes increased, the company sought a lifting solution that would enhance the speed and accuracy of pallet positioning, as well as improve the overall efficiency of material transfer.
To meet these needs, Konecranes delivered a 3.2t double-girder overhead crane fitted with target positioning technology and a two-hook hoist.
This configuration is designed to provide stable load handling and enable accurate placement of pallets during the production process.
The new crane system is currently used for semi-automatic handling of pallets and has become a routine aspect of Isokon’s daily operations.
Konecranes collaborated with Isokon to ensure the chosen specifications matched the requirements for repeated transfers and accurate positioning along the line.
The system also features inverter-controlled lifting technology for smooth, precise crane movements, giving operators greater control with less physical effort.
Isokon Production KOTERM & ISOTRACK head Marko Rožič said: “Target positioning helps speed up the cycles in our process. Together with smooth movements, it creates a very good overall experience when using the crane.
“The crane is used multiple times per day, every day, and it is an important part of our process. Our goal was to ease the workload for employees, and this crane successfully achieved that.”
Konecranes Slovenia sales team leader Amadej Skornik said: “The customer needed a solution that could combine accurate positioning with stable load handling throughout repeated lifting cycles.
“By combining target positioning with a two-hook hoist, we were able to simplify pallet handling while improving consistency and reducing the physical effort required from operators.”
Isokon reports that the implementation has led to safer pallet handling and reduced strain for its workforce, while enabling faster and more consistent transfer cycles required for manufacturing technical plastics.
Recently, Konecranes agreed to acquire a 70% share of Mitsubishi Electric FA Industrial Products (MFK), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in Japan.
