The upgraded and expanded range of single and three phase motors is available in load capacities from 250kg to 5t, in single and dual speed models and boasts a host of new features and improvements.

A complete re-design has resulted in a hoist which addresses, what Pfaff calls, “the three key issues” of easy handling, safety and ease of maintenance.

Pfaff said the solid aluminium housing is robust and has excellent thermal characteristics, while the multiple disc brake is now located after the slipping clutch, and is capable of holding the load even in the unlikely event of clutch failure.

The chain is now anchored to the housing, and a new two-piece chain guide made from low wear fibre GRP ensures that the chain cannot twist or become trapped – again, enhancing operator safety.

Ease of use and maintenance is also catered for. The two or three stage gear box operates “quietly” and the housing does not have to be opened up for maintenance or adjustment.

Similarly, the slipping clutch can be precisely adjusted without the need for special tools, and the two-part chain guide can be quickly removed and replaced without the hoist being dismantled.

All models now have faster and more precise hoisting speeds of up to 20m per minute and a frequency converter is available for soft and continuously variable starting and stopping. The new GCH range can also be adapted for use in combination crane systems and special designs.

According to Pfaff’s managing director Paul Kelly, these new additions to the GCH range are set to significantly raise the bar in terms of the hoist technology currently available in the UK. He said: “As the sole UK agent for the range, we have the industry experience and extensive engineering know-how to offer tailored solutions to a range of special applications including sports venues, stage and theatre applications.
