From April 6 2008 business owners and company directors will be held liable for the new offence of corporate manslaughter if their management practices cause a person’s death, or amount to a gross breach of the duty of care owed to the deceased. In addition to potentially unlimited fines, a further punishment will include publicity orders to expose a firm’s alleged wrongdoing.
Assistance is provided by the FPB’s Health & Safety Guide, which covers general and sector-specific regulations. It is accompanied by a range of risk assessment forms on CR-Rom, which can be personalised for use with the subscriber’s business, and comes in a simple ‘comply-as-you-complete’ format.
