Cosalt has been working with Airbus for more than seven years at its Broughton wing assembly facility in Flintshire, supplying a number of specialist lifting services. With over 30,000 items of loose lifting equipment on site, ranging from slings, shackles and eyebolts through to chain blocks, pull lifts and safety lines, Cosalt said it has had to deliver a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance, inspection and repair work programme to keep Airbus’s tool balances, winches, vertical workstations and lifting beams in full working order.

At any one time Cosalt has had between two and five engineers permanently on site. Additional engineers from Cosalt’s Birkenhead branch have supplemented this team as work has demanded.

This work with Airbus has helped its Birkenhead branch win a number of new lifting contacts, Cosalt said. It has recently secured contracts to test specialist heavy lifting equipment for Derbyshire-based Aim Engineering Ltd, and to supply chain blocks, slings and A frames to Quigley Cranes in Birkenhead. It has also extended its contract with chemical company Ineos from the inspection of loose lifting gear onsite in Runcorn to include crane inspections.

Additionally, Cosalt will supply lifting products and services to the Vauxhall plant in Ellesmere Port, and Merseyside Police.

Cosalt provides critical safety equipment for the marine, industrial and offshore markets, as well as supplying, inspecting, testing and maintaining marine safety equipment, lifting gear, rope, rigging, and fire fighting and height safety products.

Mark Revans, Cosalt’s marine and lifting equipment development manager, said: “This side of our operations is expanding thanks to our growing reputation in the market.

“Contracts with major manufacturers like Airbus send out a clear signal to other businesses that we have the expertise and the resources to carry out all types of lifting work without compromising on our ability to deliver exceptional customer service.”
