Demag Cranes & Components Ltd of the UK is in the commissioning phase of a £5m ($7.5m) contract to supply and install cranes for the new Airbus UK aerostructures assembly and manufacturing centre near Chester. This factory will produce wings for the Airbus A380 double deck airliner.
Demag has supplied main contractor Laing Construction Northern with an initial 18 cranes. It has an option on further cranes should Airbus need to expand capacity later.
Three years ago Demag supplied cranes for another mall at the same Airbus plant.
The inter-connecting, multi-span system includes cranes ranging from 6.3t in the materials receiving area to two 40t cranes operating in tandem in the finished wings despatch area.
