Sahm Splice Boosts Sustainability with Solar Power

Sahm Splice has installed solar panels at its Bremerhaven headquarters, saving up to 80t of CO₂ annually, and contributing over a quarter of electrical consumption at the facility on Germany’s North Sea coast.

A Tight Squeeze

The rope manufacturer Voigt Seil- und Hebetechnik in Bad Düben (Germany) is a certified service partner of STAHL CraneSystems and has completely replaced the crane system for opening the bulkhead at the bottom outlet in the Rappbode Dam. A sophisticated concept from the modular CraneKit system was used for this. The special design had to fit through a narrow hatch in the dam and be installed in the confined space inside the dam wall. Heike Metzger, senior specialist, sales enablement, STAHL CraneSystems in Künzelsau, explains.

Never in any doubt

Bernard Doughty leads Carl Stahl Evita as managing director with the very same values that shaped him; being accessible and supportive, honest and committed to those around him. A reflection of the company’s beliefs, this month’s CEO diaries hears from Doughty to find out about his experience and expectation for the industry.

A New Chapter: The 29th International Offshore Crane and Lifting Conference Comes to Amsterdam

For nearly three decades, the International Offshore Crane and Lifting Conference has stood as the pre-eminent forum for the global offshore lifting and material handling community, a place where regulators, operators, engineers, end-users and technology providers come together to tackle the industry’s most pressing challenges and share real-world experience.

How to lift pipes

Ben Dobbs, head of global standards and legislation at the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), gives an overview of the options for safely lifting of pipes.

Indian market boom

India dominates South Asia’s industrial construction pipeline, underpinned by largescale investments in manufacturing, supportive government policies and a strong push towards becoming a $35trn economy by 2047. With hundreds of projects in early development and sustained growth across steel, electronics, semiconductors and advanced materials, the sector is set for robust expansion through the rest of the decade.

Bridging the skills gap

Port operators are turning to training to tackle the growing labour shortage and skills gap in their workforce. DLM looks at how OEMs and training specialists are responding to this demand.

Time to save the planet

Sustainable overhead lifting focuses on reducing energy consumption, emissions and material waste through technologies like electric and battery power, regenerative drives, smart controls and energy-efficient motors, as well as cleaner fuels, recycled materials and longer life spans through modernisation. Key solutions include all-electric cranes, hybrid options, LED lighting, smart system optimisation and prioritising modular designs for longer life spans and refurbishment, cutting the significant environmental impact of manufacturing new equipment. Julian Champkin investigates.

Precision Engineering

The aerospace industry entails exceptionally high standards of precision, safety, traceability and operational efficiency. From engine installation and wing assembly, to maintenance, repair and overhaul MRO functions, the industry depends on specialised lifting solutions to support the safe handling of large, complex and high-value components throughout their life cycle. Hoist investigates.
