Luxembourg-based logistics service provider CLdN has selected Liebherr Container Cranes to procure five new rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for its Killingholme terminal in the UK.
The investment is set to significantly enhance CLdN’s cargo handling capabilities and accommodate expected volume growth on North Sea routes.
The expansion includes connections to the ports of Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.
Liebherr’s new electric RTG cranes will replace part of CLdN’s existing fleet of diesel-powered reach stackers.
The project is expected to improve operational efficiency and stacking capacity while reducing the carbon footprint.
Each crane boasts a lift capacity of 41 tonnes under the spreader, a gantry span of nearly 35m, and the ability to stack containers five high, equivalent to 18m.
Construction of the cranes is in progress at Liebherr’s Killarney factory in the Republic of Ireland, with assembly and commissioning scheduled for early 2026.
Preparatory civil works for the RTG area at Killingholme are already well advanced, ensuring a smooth transition upon the cranes’ arrival.
Established in 1929, CLdN provides integrated quay-to-quay and door-to-door logistics solutions, efficiently linking Europe’s major economic areas.
Operating 30 ships with over 200 weekly sailings, CLdN offers shortsea connections across the European continent, the UK, Ireland, Iberia, and Scandinavia.
It maintains the lowest CO2 footprint among Western European RoRo operators.
Liebherr, a German-Swiss multinational equipment manufacturer headquartered in Bulle, Switzerland, operates over 130 companies across 11 divisions.
Earlier this year, Liebherr Africa enhanced operations at Port Elizabeth Container Terminal with a new ship-to-shore (STS) crane, valued at ZAR240m ($12.7m).
The STS crane supplied to Port Elizabeth features advanced technology to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
