Lootah Lemmens has developed an explosion-proof overhead crane for a client in the oil and gas industry in the UAE, addressing safety and compliance in hazardous environments.
The crane is designed for ATEX-certified zones, where explosive gases or vapours may be present, ensuring adherence to international safety standards.
It features an explosion-proof hoist from France-based Verlinde, integrated into a custom-built overhead crane system tailored to the client’s operational and spatial needs.
The hoist, selected for its design and reliability, is customised to the client’s lifting capacity requirements and is ATEX-certified, with zone classification defined by the project scope.
The system is remote-controlled with safety redundancy and is installed at an oil and gas facility in the UAE for safe handling of heavy components.
Lootah Lemmens has designed and assembled the crane at its facility in Umm Al Quwain.
It ensured quality control at every stage, from mechanical structure and electrical configuration to fabrication and final inspection.
The crane is engineered for corrosion resistance, smooth lifting in confined spaces, and long-term serviceability, supported by a five-year extended maintenance plan.
In oil and gas facilities, where safety is critical, traditional crane systems pose ignition risks in hazardous zones.
Explosion-proof cranes are equipped with specialised enclosures, sealed electrical components, and spark-resistant materials to ensure operational safety.
Lootah Lemmens’ explosion-proof crane is ready for delivery and installation, with commissioning and operator training provided by the company’s technicians.
The company also offers comprehensive after-sales support, including spare parts, inspections, and maintenance services, ensuring continued safety and efficiency.
Lootah Lemmens, in a LinkedIn post, said: “We’re currently assembling an explosion-proof overhead crane for a customer in the oil & gas industry in the UAE.
“Equipped with a Verlinde explosion-proof hoist, this crane is built for safe operation in ATEX-certified hazardous zones, where precision and safety are critical.
“From design to final assembly, the entire process is handled in-house by our experienced engineering team in Umm Al Quwain.”
Last month, Lootah Lemmens delivered and installed a 10-ton overhead crane at a metal production facility in the UAE.
The advanced lifting system is designed to enhance productivity by moving heavy loads smoothly and safely, thereby minimising downtime.
