China-based Yuantai has successfully delivered a 5-ton HD bridge crane to a transmission line workshop in Lebanon, addressing the facility’s need for dependable overhead lifting.
The Lebanese workshop, which manufactures and assembles high-voltage line components, needed a solution to lift large insulator strings, conductor drums, and transformer cores.
Previously, the workshop relied on a 3-ton single-girder crane and mobile chain hoists, which were inadequate for lifting heavy transformer cores and conductor drums.
In the workshop, the operators had to perform tandem lifts with two hoists, leading to misalignment, load swings, and increased setup time.
The existing crane is equipped with fixed speed gearmotors that cause jerky movements, extending project timelines by up to 15%.
Also, the crane suffered from frequent maintenance issues, including brake adjustments and motor overheating, resulting in unscheduled downtime of 20 hours in 2024.
Yuantai designed its new HD bridge crane, featuring a European NR-type wire rope hoist, has significantly enhanced operational efficiency.
Its custom-designed 5-ton bridge crane features a 6.3 m span, engineered with Q345B steel plates welded into a box-beam for high stiffness and low deflection.
The crane’s end trucks with forged steel wheels distribute the load evenly on runway rails, reducing runway beam wear by 25% compared to conventional designs.
Its span length matches the workshop beam spacing precisely, ensuring smooth travel.
The crane’s 5 m lifting height facilitates the loading of tall insulator stacks and transformer cores, while the HD series reduces the beam-to-hook distance by 20%, maximising clearance under the workshop roof.
The European NR-type electric wire rope hoist offers dual-speed hoisting, a high fatigue life, and a robust brake system.
Additional features include a digital overload limiter, limit switches, and IP54 protection for the hoist motor and gearbox.
Variable frequency drive (VFD) control in both bridge and trolley drives provides stepless speed control, soft start/stop, and energy savings of up to 15% through regenerative braking.
The crane also meets ANSI/ASME B30.2 and EN 15011 standards, with safety features such as emergency stop buttons, phase-loss protection, and fault alarms.
The 5-ton HD bridge crane has improved lifting capacity, precision, and safety while reducing maintenance and energy costs.
Its design and advanced controls enable various applications beyond transmission line workshops, such as fabrication, assembly, warehousing, and port operations.
