Slated for installation at the Landing and Impact Research Facility at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, the winch will provide precision velocity and position control of a 2,000lb payload at speeds of up to 3m per second over 100m of vertical travel.
Using FTSI’s Navigator motion control and programming system, NASA engineers will have the ability to simulate, repeat and document surface approach profiles as well as manipulate the payload in three dimensional space by plugging two or more additional winches into the system to form a multi-point suspension configuration.
