The new Zénith in Strasbourg is comprised of a concrete shell and metal arches with asymmetrical ellipses which are coated with an orange-coloured self-cleaning textile membrane, visible from far off, by day and night.
This cloth becomes translucent when it is strongly lit from within and allows the structure of the auditorium to be revealed like a Chinese shadow figure. The membrane, a record-breaking 12,000 sq m, can also be used as a screen to display the programme of festivities.
FL Structure installed the stage equipment for the whole auditorium, comprising a grid of 500mm beams, suspended by a series of electric chain hoists. In all, there are 34 SM5 chain hoists from the Stagemaker range plus 6 CHV motorised trolleys and about 100 CHD manual travelling trolleys.
