Second-hand crane specialist Technical Cranes of the UK has completed one contract and been awarded a second on a special magnet crane with slewing crab unit for Anglo-Dutch steel company Corus.
The lattice girder overhead crane, with a 90ft (27m) span and weighing 120t was dismantled on site in Staffordshire. Two large mobile cranes, rated at 200t and 160t, lifting in tandem removed the crane from the building before it was transported on special trailers from the Stoke plant to the Skinningrove Corus plant where it was reassembled on to trestles.
An inspection was carried out to evaluate the condition of the crane, from which a quotation for stage two was submitted to reduce the crane’s span to 80ft (24m) and to carry out refurbishment work. The crane will be re-erected on a gantry at Skinningrove during the summer shutdown.
