A citizen of Bay City, Michigan, USA has suggested naming a site planned for development “Hoist Acres” to reflect the site’s history.

The site, in a city about 80mi north of Detroit, is the former home of the Industrial Works, from 1930s known as Industrial Brownhoist, a division of the American Hoist and Derrick Company.

The business closed in 1983 and the site was used by the Robert Gage Coal Co, which sold it to Bay Aggregates.

A proposed development on the site, on the Sagninaw River, is called ‘Uptown at RiversEdge’.

But Bill Keipert, owner of JB Men’s Apparel, and chairman of the Columbus Avenue Management Board, suggested an alternate name.

The Domino’s Pizza chain was named for Michigan’s Domino Farms, Keipert said, so why not try the same thing for the industrial site.

But so far the idea has not gained a great following.

“It made it into the local paper and that was about it,” he said, because of the lack of interest in the site. “It went out for bid and nothing came back.”
