The motors feature high power density and are square in shape, making them easy to build into machines. The motor sizes emulate those of DC motors and can replace these size for size. “The HDP range has exceptionally high dynamic performance, using a light rotor with small diameter to minimize inertia,” ABB added.

The new motors will find uses in areas as diverse as injection molding, winders and unwinders in paper production, cranes, lifting and conveying, test benches, theatre scene automation, park rides and spindle drives. They are robust and suitable for operation in harsh environmental conditions.
The range includes mounting form B3, B35, V1 and V35 with IP54 protection and axial cooling (cooling form IC416), and IP23 protection with radial fan (cooling form IC 06). A wide range of accessories is available, including speed and position transducers, resolvers, encoders, holding brakes, insulated non drive end bearings and winding temperature protection.
Maximum speed is 9,000rpm and the motors feature forced air cooling. Available in voltages from 400V up to 460V, they are supplied with four poles for frame sizes 132, 160, 200; and with six poles for frame size 100. Ball bearings are standard, while roller bearings can be supplied as an option.
