A new low-headroom hoist from JD Neuhaus is designed for handling large bags or loads wider than 1m. The hoist has 550mm head clearance between the fully raised load hook and the hoist body to eliminate the possibility of collisions between the load and the overhead chain box.
Powered by compressed air, the spark-resistant hoist is suitable for use in hazardous zones 1 and 2, which include food, fertiliser and paper production, cement manufacture or any other application where explosive dusts or solvent laden atmospheres are likely.
The safety features on the new model include a galvanised lifting chain with copper coated hook and sprocket and bronze wheels and drive gears. The brass components are finished with a special paint and anti-static controls are also available for when the hoist is operating in dangerous areas.
The hoist operates from a 6 bar pressure air supply with a consumption of 1.4m3/min and has a standard 3m lift. The hoist’s operation is lubricant-free and has minimal maintenance requirements, according to the manufacturer.
The limit switches on the top and bottom have integral motor braking and any excess chain is stored in the chain box to maintain a clear working area.
The bag hoist was developed in response to a request from a customer in the USA – Engelhard Chemicals. The order was placed through Neuhaus distributor Airdyne Inc of Houston, Texas.
