Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has commenced operations with a new crane at its General Lagos agro-industrial complex on the Paraná River in Santa Fe Province.

The latest development introduces an additional route for unloading barges at the plant, complementing existing land transport and enhancing grain receival logistics from ports in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

LDC industry head Diego Pereyra said: “The incorporation of this new crane in General Lagos reflects our commitment to continue investing in logistics and port infrastructure, and consolidates our position as an important regional player in fluvial grain transportation, in one of the country’s main agro-exporting areas.

“This investment adds a new unloading point to our regional asset network, strengthening our operational capacity and offering an alternative to sustain crushing volumes with merchandise from Paraguay and Uruguay, at times of the year when local soybean availability decreases.”

The crane, with a daily unloading capacity of 4,800 tons, strengthens LDC’s logistical capabilities in coastal shipping. It facilitates the receival of national products like soy, corn, and wheat through fluvial transportation.

LDC anticipates a substantial portion of these crops to originate from its recently established Santa Elena facility in Entre Ríos Province, which also features a barge port on the Paraná River.

Furthermore, the new crane will support the receival of corn and soy from Paraguay and Uruguay. This will aid in the production of high-protein soybean meal, allowing LDC to adapt to various logistical scenarios, market conditions, and the availability of agricultural products.
