Konecranes has completed the installation of a 3.2t X-series overhead crane at Volvo Hungária, a major company serving the truck service industry.

The crane was installed at Volvo Hungária’s new site, where it maintains and services heavy-duty trucks.

The overhead crane spans 6.6m as per the requirements of the facility layout. It incorporates a Konecranes S-series hoist.

The S-series hoist is designed to support reliable operation and has technology-enabled features like sway control and snag prevention.

Sway control limits movement of suspended loads while lifting or transporting gearboxes or other truck parts, which helps in precise load placement and may decrease potential for damage, said Konecranes.

Sensors built into the system monitor for obstacles and adjust movements to minimise risk of equipment impact, supporting safer load handling throughout the service area.

The installation follows Volvo Hungária’s request for lifting equipment to support the handling of heavy components, including gearboxes, as part of its efforts to grow service operations and manage large truck parts more efficiently.

Prior to the deployment of the equipment, Volvo encountered issues related to productivity and safety during its daily activities at the new site.

Volvo Hungária said the introduction of the new system has enabled it to establish a consistent lifting process for large truck components.

It also allowed faster positioning of parts during maintenance tasks and eased physical demands on technicians, the company noted.

Volvo Hungária service manager Fabik Attila said: “Lifting and moving extremely heavy truck parts is part of our daily work. With the new crane from Konecranes, we’ve significantly increased our productivity and efficiency. I would definitely recommend both the products and the collaboration with Konecranes.”

In August this year, Konecranes installed six S-series overhead cranes at Contibelt’s manufacturing site in Austria.
