A US shipyard is using a 50t (55 US ton) pneumatic hoist from JD Neuhaus to lift ship segments.
The shipyard chose the 50t capacity EH 50 to handle loads with a nominal weight of 46t.
The EH 50 hoist uses two driving units to minimise headroom.
The hoist travels on an I-beam section with A-frame supports.
Travelling motors have a special free-running setting to allow the ship segments to find their own centre of gravity when lifted.
The operator can use the remote control pendant to open the travel drive brakes once the hoist is parked above a load.
The hoist also has a special rams head-type hook with shackle bore.
