Westcon Lofteteknikk is an authorized Norwegian sole importer of J D Neuhaus lifting and handling equipment.
J D Neuhaus designed the semi portal crane in gigantic dimensions: reaching 11.5m high and weighing 32USt.
The semi portal has an A-frame supporting twin 40t JDN hydraulic EH 40-H monorail hoists. The overhead horizontal track beams span 7.5m.
Each of the hoists can operate individually or simultaneously using one control, and may be used in tandem for lifting 80USt to a height of 12m, J D Neuhaus said.
The firm also supplied a JDN Profi 6 TI-H hoist with a lifting capacity of 6USt to meet the client’s additional operational or service needs.
Designed for offshore operation, the new crane was built to withstand temperatures as low as -20ºC and inclines of 3º with the crane loaded or 27º when unloaded.
The company said it designed the entire energy supply system for the crane to allow for crane travel movements using four hydraulic drives and that it includes an electro-hydraulic switch cabinet attached to the access gangway.
Design included a back-up system operating with the primary radio controls to cover any radio control panel failure. The client can manually operate the crane during power outages.
To cover any disruption to or total loss of the main power supply, designers included a special safety feature: a back-up hydraulic pump with a fluid reservoir tank capable of lowering suspended loads in an emergency and safely positioning the hoist trolleys and the crane.
Able to work in the hazardous environments such as are found on many offshore rigs, the new crane is has been designed to meet Ex-Classification of Ex II 3 GD IIB T4.
Other requirements the company said the new equipment meets are the 2006/42/EC – EC Machine directive, DNV OS E101 (Drilling plant), DNV Lifting appliances 2.22, FEM 1-001 (Rules for design of hoisting appliances), and Norsok R-CR-002 (Lifting equipment).
