A market report has forecast growth for the UK hoist and crane markets.

The report predicts that the winding, jacking and lifting equipment market will be worth £170m (Euro 240m) in 2009, 24% over its 2004 market of £130m (Euro 180m) in real terms.

The report said that demand for cranes and transporters is expected to increase by 7% in real terms until 2009, partially reflecting continued output growth in the construction sector.

The market for forklifts and works trucks is expected to fall 15% until 2009, partly because of extensions in forklift working life.

Generally speaking, growth is expected through anticipated growth of output in construction and through growth in distribution and warehousing. Limited growth in UK manufacturing will restrict growth.

The UK Mechanical Lifting & Handling Equipment Market Development Report costs £550 (Euro 775) from research firm Market & Business Development Ltd.
