GH Cranes & Components has supplied equipment for the Riachuelo System project, a major initiative aimed at enhancing water and sewage treatment infrastructure in the Buenos Aires metropolitan region in Argentina.

The project, spearheaded by a collaboration between FISIA and ACCIONA, with AySA (Argentine Water and Sanitation) as the end client, is designed to upgrade the area’s sanitation facilities.

GH Cranes contributed to the project by delivering kits for three double-girder overhead cranes, each with unique capacities and dimensions.

The cranes, with beams manufactured locally in Argentina, include a 25-ton crane with a 15.5m span and a 15m hook path, another 25-ton crane with a 38.2m span and a 38m hook path, and a 15-ton crane with a 14.8m span and a 45m hook path.

The Riachuelo System comprises a pretreatment plant, an input lifting station, and an output pumping station.

The joint venture of ACCIONA and FISIA ITALIMPIANTI (part of the WeBuild Group) secured the EPC contract from AySA for the Sistema de Riachuelo project. The project aims to address capacity constraints and improve service quality in the Buenos Aires metropolitan sewerage systems, benefiting a population of 4.3 million.

The system will serve 12 municipalities and is expected to extend sanitation services to an additional 1.5 million people in the future. The project also promises significant public health, environmental, and social development benefits, with over 30km of tunnels enhancing service quality and reducing wastewater pollution in the Riachuelo area.

In a separate development, in February 2025, Sheffield Forgemasters finalised a multimillion-pound contract with GH Cranes for overhead cranes to support its expanding defence-sector operations, including contributions to the AUKUS defence pact.

The deal, secured after a competitive tender process, involves GH Cranes providing 11 overhead cranes and a 400-ton lifting beam for Sheffield Forgemasters’ new 35,000m² machine shop at its Brightside Lane site.
