Each electric overhead travelling crane has a SWL of 45t and is about 28.5m in length, achieving hoisting speeds of 27m per min thanks to an anti-sway system and radio controlled positioning with a control station.

Siemens supplied most of the electrical components, including the inverters connected to a Simotion controller.

A radio controlled system assists with precision positioning over coils. Radio signals give information on the X ,Y, and Z axis, using encoders on the Z axis. An operator can use the video display on cameras and winch.

“In this way the operator is able to control the exact location of the coil, as well as the safe working of the winch. Both without leaving his comfortable operator seat,” said Deman.

Deman’s Kortrijk facility is situated in the western province of Belgium. It originally built flax processing machines before focusing on overhead and gantry cranes.
