LiWooD, a German company specialising in sustainable modular wood construction, has integrated Demag components and rope hoists to manage large building elements.
The use of Demag’s equipment aligns with LiWooD’s sustainable manufacturing approach, where residential unit components are produced directly on the construction site.
The method requires cranes that ensure precise and safe handling of substantial components.
To meet the needs, Liebl Kranbau, a long-term partner of Demag, designed and built two double-girder overhead cranes, with a span of 19.44m, operating on a shared 47m runway.
The cranes incorporate Demag DRS-M 160-wheel blocks, which have been reliable in various crane applications for decades.
The wheel blocks are paired with Demag offset geared brake motors and ZBF90 drives, creating a compact and powerful drive unit.
Both the travel and lifting speeds of the cranes are infinitely adjustable, allowing for precise positioning of the timber modules.
Each of the four Demag rope hoists has a load capacity of five tonnes and a hook path of six metres, with lifting speeds ranging from 0.7 to 4m/min.
The adjustability is crucial for positioning the components accurately, ensuring they are securely held until LiWooD employees complete the assembly.
Safety features are integral to the crane system, including holding brakes and overload protection to prevent load dropping.
The cranes are designed to withstand the stresses of frequent assembly and disassembly, as they are used in temporary production halls.
The connecting elements have been reinforced to adapt to these conditions.
Liebl Kranbau’s expertise in assembling and dismantling the cranes is part of the ‘all-round no-worries’ package offered by the Certified Demag Partner.
The service was established during the project planning phase to ensure seamless operation.
In addition, the runway rails are mounted on wooden beams throughout their length, complementing LiWooD’s construction approach and proving successful in practice.
Demag, in a LinkedIn post, said: “LiWooD uses a sustainable manufacturing concept for the construction of residential units. The house components are manufactured in a wooden production line directly on the construction site.
“Demag’s long-standing partner Liebl Kranbau from Germany built cranes, including Demag CraneSets and Demag hashtagDrives, to handle some of the large building elements.
“Since then, the crane construction partner has supported LiWooD in dismantling and assembling the cranes from site to site.”
Recently, Lift Safe Cranes India has installed Demag KBK light crane systems at four locations in India, in Punjab, Kolkata, Jahirabad, and Pune.
Each system includes Demag chain hoists and supports a safe working load of one tonne, enhancing material handling operations in these areas.
