Columbus McKinnon Corporation (CMCO) is launching Intelli-Connect Mobile+ in June, which is an upgraded version of its Intelli-Connect Mobile App for Android and iOS.

Hoist speaks to Jim Kluck, global product manager, Automation, CMCO, to find out why it felt the need to launch an upgraded version to the mobile app, which was launched in April this year - read more about the product in our Hoist May digital edition https://www2.ns-mediagroup.com/hoist-digital

“We are launching the second phase of Intelli-Connect, the Intelli-Connect Mobile+ because it has been well received in the marketplace. It will be an advanced version of Intelli-Connect with further tools for diagnostics and maintenance for our customers, for tricky or nuisance faults that keep occurring, to enable them to trend that data over a period time to see what’s going on with different signals to see where the actual issue is coming from, and what the customer needs to focus their attention on,” said Kluck.

“As we’ve been adapting and finding new ways to reach out to our customers during Covid-19, we looked at video communication, tele-conferencing, offering access to training webinars to give customers what they need to maintain the equipment they have and to stay up-to-date on technology.

“The pandemic gave us an opportunity to sit down and learn about new things and to find out ways of modernising cranes and implementing new controls.

“With our smart technology and Magnetek variable frequency drive we are trying to provide more in terms of data and information. If you think about our cranes and hoists, they are up in the air, 100 feet high, and to access the set up and data up there can be challenging. We want to grab that information for our customer so they can make changes and use that intelligent technology so everything can be communicated together to show how things are being utilised and what they need to focus on in terms of maintenance and bring that to the plant floor.

“We are exploring user interfaces that make it easier for people to use and understand, with step-by-step instructions and building those into the mobile phone apps.

“Now is the time to think about modifications on your AC/DC drives, updating controls, sway control, radios and new capabilities in terms of connectivity, functionality, security, and battery life.”
