Asian Terminals (ATI) has commissioned two advanced Neo-Panamax Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes at Manila South Harbor (MSH), to enhance its annual handling capacity.
ATI is the operator of the MSH, the Port of Batangas, Batangas Container Terminal and off-dock yards in Sta. Mesa, Manila and Calamba, Laguna.
The company deployed the new cranes as part of the ongoing modernisation of the terminal to meet evolving customer needs and market requirements.
Also, the move aligns with ATI’s investment commitment with the Philippine Ports Authority.
The new cranes complement the other 11 modern STS cranes, alongside hybrid and conventional rubber-tired gantries and other cargo handling equipment at MSH.
ATI director William Khoury said: “The deployment of these two new cranes significantly boosts Manila South Harbor’s capacity and efficiency, allowing us to handle larger vessels and more cargoes, which directly benefit the Philippines as an emerging economic centre in the region.
“In partnership with the government, we are lining up more investment in the coming years to future proof our gateway terminals in Manila, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna in support of the resilient and sustainable growth of the Philippine economy.”
The newly deployed cranes, manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries, represent the largest quay-side equipment deployed in the Philippines.
With 58m outreach, each crane can manage vessels carrying up to 20 container rows wide.
The cranes are equipped with eco-friendly powertrains, innovative technologies, and safety features, enabling faster container cycles and vessel turn-around times.
Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) is a state-owned Chinese company that is one of the largest port machinery manufacturers globally.
It is controlled by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and operates a fleet of over 20 transportation vessels for delivering large products worldwide.
