Aquin M&A advises Binar Handling on Schmalz acquisition

Aquin, a German based M&A advisor, specializing in the crane and hoist industry, has acted as the sole advisor on behalf of Swedish company Binar Handling and its shareholders following its acquisition by Schmalz.

Here, Thomas Grauvogl, MD, Aquin and Wolfgang Schorre, who has over 40 years' experience in the industry including ABUS, and Konecranes, and is now senior advisor, Crane & Hoist, Aquin, talk to Hoist about the M&A market across Europe and their reaction to the planned Cargotec/Konecranes merger, which is now cancelled.

 

 

Vacuum specialist, J. Schmalz has acquired Binar Handling, which manufactures handling systems for loads weighing up to 600kg, together with its subsidiaries in China, Turkey, France and Germany, strengthening its market position in ergonomic handling technology. 

The development and production company, headquartered in Trollhättan, Sweden, previously belonged to Argynnis Group. 

"Binar Handling perfectly complements the Schmalz portfolio for manual handling with its electric manipulators, crane booms and various end effectors," said Dr. Kurt Schmalz, MD, Schmalz.  

Schmalz plans to maintain the Binar Handling brand and continue to grow with it in the markets. CEO is and will remain Mattias Lindh, who has been responsible for Binar Handling's business since 2018. With the acquisition, the Schmalz Group grows to around 1,700 employees at 23 locations worldwide.

With the acquisition of Binar Handling, with its ergonomic products like the Quick-Lift Arm, Schmalz will offer solutions for sensitive balancing and handling in the future, for example for applications in battery production or logistics.
