AJT Engineering’s Site Services Division has completed the installation and commissioning of a 15-ton Konecranes overhead crane for the Rannoch Automatic Self Closing Valve (ASCV) replacement project.

The new crane replaces the former 10-ton manually operated unit, aligning with the increased load demands of the new ASC valves set for installation next month.

The upgrade necessitated the replacement of crane beams, a task undertaken by AJT Engineering’s Site Services Division as the Principal Contractor.

The in-house design of the new beams was managed by SSE Renewables TCofE, with Concrete Repairs Limited UK handling building repairs. McDonald Scaffolding provided access and crash decks for the project.

AJT Engineering, in a LinkedIn post, said: “As we get closer to the installation of the new ASCV valves. We have procured, installed and commissioned a 15t overhead crane.

“Our onsite team, along with various contractors, successfully completed the installation even with the challenges faced due to access for installation. Credit to all of the AJT Engineering Ltd Site Services Division for their safe working practices throughout this part of the project.”

In a separate development, Konecranes has completed the installation of a 42-ton coil handling crane at Welser Profile’s facility in Gresten, Austria.

The installation, which took place earlier this month, replaces an older 36-ton crane, marking a significant upgrade in capacity. The project involved dismantling the previous crane, updating a 175m crane runway, and enhancing power supply systems.

A design life assessment indicated that the older crane and its runway had reached the end of their operational life. Konecranes collaborated with Welser Profile, a company specialising in custom roll-formed metal profiles, to assess and meet the current and future production needs for steel and aluminium coil handling.
