Harrington Hoists has launched its heaviest-ever electric chain hoist in the single-phase ED range into the US market. The 1000 lb (450 kg)-capacity hoist, available in single or double speeds, doubles the capacity of the largest model previously available. Like the other six models in the ED line (capacity 125 lbs – 525 lbs), the hoists include a Weston-style load brake and a regenerative brake, a friction clutch to prevent overwinding and nickel-plated load chain.
Cheng Day Europe is launching a 240kg (530 lb) capacity variable-frequency electric hoist in the middle of next year.
The single-phase hoist, in 110V and 220V, will be sold in the do-it-yourself market, according to Cheng Day Taiwan sales manager John Pan.
The Netherlands-based distributor of Taiwanese-made hoists will be the first to sell the hoist. 120kg and 480kg models will follow.
Users turn a dial on the control to adjust the top speed of the hoist. A press on the raise and lower buttons accelerate the hoist until it reaches the dialled-in speed.
Lifting speeds range from 3.4m/min to 13.4m/min.
The hoist uses brushless DC motors. More and more, inverter-controlled brushless DC motors with a high-magnetism excited magnet have a high torsion output and good control at low rotation rates, the company said. These motors are well suited to the needs of long hours of operation, large variation in loads and more frequent intermittent service, it said.
