ABB will provide crane automation and electrical systems to three projects for ZPMC at port locations around the world.

ABB will provide automation, electrical systems and related services for 38 unmanned automatic stacking container cranes and eight ship-to-shore container cranes at Busan New Port in South Korea. This will see ABB deliver full crane automation and support systems, as well as related project management, engineering, customer training and commissioning services. The cranes will be operable in mid-2011.

ZPMC has also awarded ABB the contract to supply automation and electrical systems for two ship-to-shore container cranes and four electric rubber-tyre gantry container cranes for Santa Marta International Terminal Company in Colombia. The cranes will be operable at the beginning of 2011.

Finally, ABB is to provide automation and electrical systems for three 2,500t per hour bulk grab ship unloader cranes operated by Tangshan Port Group, which will be used to unload ore from ships and barges at Shougang Jingtang Port in China. The cranes will be operable by the end of 2010.

“These projects confirm the need for safe, fast and cost-effective goods handling in major shipping ports,” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s process automation division.
