In our latest Hoist video series, we chat to Peter Stipan, global director, Automation Division Crane Solutions Group, Columbus McKinnon Corporation (CMCO).

Stipan is in charge of the Automation Division, which CMCO launched at the end of 2019, to expand the company’s automation product and service portfolio for its global customer base.

Mark Morelli, CEO, CMCO, said at the time: “The requirement for increased operational efficiency through streamlined production processes is paramount for our customers. We created a dedicated automation division to accelerate innovation in Intelligent Motion solutions that combine our skills as lifting specialists with the technology of our Magnetek brand to solve lifting challenges in mission-critical applications.”

David Wilson took over the helm at CMCO on June 1, 2020 and has proven success with operational excellence and customer-centric commercial growth.  As the new CEO of CMCO, Wilson has fully embraced automation and the innovative product development since his arrival within the last year.

Stipan has a wealth of knowledge, having previously worked for CMCO’s Magnetek brand. The company’s Controls and Automation Center of Excellence is based in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.  Two other COE’s are located in Charlotte, North Carolina and one in Künzelsau, Germany.

He talks to Hoist about the launch of Intelli-Connect this month, for crane and hoist users to access detailed system information on their tablet or smartphone through the Intelli-Connect Mobile App, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), and No-Fly Zone Systems, to improve the safety of operators and equipment by limiting the risk of collisions.
