New steel terminal increases cranage

10 November 1998

Hull Steel Terminal, the specialist steel-handling facility at Associated British Ports’ Port of Hull, has increased its cranage to cope with rising throughput.

The facility, which opened only in October 1997, has taken delivery of two more 25t gantry cranes from KCI Konecranes. It now has five cranes in all, and cranes are available in all operational bays to allow maximum usage. Hull Steel Terminal is the UK’s first fully enclosed steel-handling facility and handles 200,000t a year for its major client, British Steel.

Also in the UK, Denholm Shipping Services and the Mersey Docks & Harbour Company have announced plans for a new steel terminal at Birkenhead Docks.
