Künz installs track storage system

3 February 2003

Austrian crane manufacturer Hans Künz has supplied a crane based handling system in its home country to Voest-Alpine Stahl Donawitz for handling sections of rail track.

The crane system is part of a 122m long storage area, which is used for intermediate storage of long rail tracks. The rail tracks, which vary in length up to 120m, are transported via a conveyor system to the storage area.

From there, the Künz crane system can automatically manipulate between one and four various combinations of tracks simultaneously.

The main girder is 130m long and the portal span is 49m. There are eight angular trolleys with telescopic hoists for accurate guidance of the load. Each hoist has a lifting capacity of 6t and a lifting height of 3m.
