In celebration of International Women’s Day, (March 8, 2022) Hoist is profiling a series of articles with women who work in the hoisting and overhead crane industry.

Here Angie Erven worked for Piedmont Hoist & Crane, describes how she started her career. She was regional sales manager at the company for seven years, before leaving in August last year.

I worked in the construction industry at an early age, I was always a tomboy and started my career in the maintenance department for Progress Rail. Most of my career has been spent in a hard hat and steel toe boots,” she said.

“My biggest achievement was when I sold the largest project to Boeing in 2018 for $7.7m and successfully project managed the job until I left in 2021. Currently I am looking to move directions with my career. I have been in the construction industry for over 25 years, and I am finding it challenging to break into a new industry. My dream would be to be a yacht broker.

In the beginning of my career, I was the first woman in my chosen industry for 80% of the jobs I applied for. I love seeing women out in the construction industry and how well respected they have become.”
